How Many People Use AI Everyday?

A brightly colored scene of a happy AI robot holds hands with joyful users of AI to filter spam, recommend music, and prevent fraud

Artificial intelligence (AI) is more integrated into our daily lives than most people realize. In fact, 88% of people encounter at least one AI use case daily, though many may not recognize it.

While only 28% of people report using AI daily, 69% are unaware of their interactions with AI. From spam filters in emails to auto-generated playlists on music apps, AI operates behind the scenes, seamlessly enhancing everyday activities.

Common Uses of AI in Daily Life

Artificial intelligence as a concept may seem overwhelming, so many people think only tools like ChatGPT qualify as AI. However, it's more commonplace than most realize because they don't expect AI to exist as a gradient.

Here is the wide range, yet often overlooked, uses of AI in everyday life:

  • VIrtual Assistants: Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant provide daily assistance.

  • Search Engines: Features like “people also search for” are AI-driven.

  • Customer Relationship Management: AI improves user experience and streamlines business operations.

  • Navigation and Travel: GPS and ride-hailing apps use AI for efficiency.

  • Recommendation Systems: Platforms like Netflix and Spotify offer personalized suggestions using AI algorithms.

  • Security and Surveillance: AI enhances monitoring systems for better safety.

  • Healthcare: AI assists in diagnostics and treatment decisions.

  • Smart Home Devices: Thermostats, security cameras, and home automation tools rely on AI.

  • Banking and Finance: AI supports fraud detection and risk analysis.

  • eCommerce: Personalized product recommendations and chatbots are powered by AI.

AI Filters Spam

Odds are good you’ve already used AI today. If you’re one of the 88% of people who check their email at least once a day, or one of the 39% checking it 3 to 5 times per day, you’re life has benefitted from AI. Spam filtering is an AI-driven process, yet only 51% of people recognize this function as AI at work.

AI Recommends Content

A significant number of people engage with AI through music streaming services like Spotify and YouTube Music. Nearly 78% of people use streaming platforms, where AI plays a critical role in generating personalized playlists. These playlists are created automatically based on pattern recognition from past music you've listened to, liked, or downloaded. Surprisingly, there isn’t just some guy sitting in a dark room sorting them for you.

AI Automates Fraud Prevention

Another common AI use case, often overlooked, is fraud prevention in banking. With fraud rates on the rise, AI plays a critical role in detecting suspicious activity, boasting a 98% success rate in identifying potential threats. That one simple email or text is AI, and it’s acting as a buffer between you and somebody with their hands in your cookie jar. Thank you, automation, for letting me know somebody was trying to buy a full size excavator from Temu for $1,200.

Conclusion

AI is far more prevalent than many realize, with its impact extending across various aspects of daily life—from email filters to streaming services to fraud prevention and beyond. Understanding how AI influences our everyday experiences highlights the growing importance of AI-powered technologies in enhancing efficiency, convenience, and personalization. It ain’t all sci-fi characters and ChatGPT out there.
